Themed weddings are a big trend here in Japan. After a Pokémon wedding service made its debut back in February, Final Fantasy fans can now tie the knot in a ceremony inspired by their favourite sci-fi video game.
Kobe-based wedding planner Bridal Heart has teamed up with video game developer Square Enix to launch the world’s first Final Fantasy-themed wedding plan, based on the in-game scene ‘Ceremony of Eternal Bonding’ in Final Fantasy XIV.
For the ceremony held at popular wedding venue Deux Zero, the bridal couple will be dressed in faithful recreations of the wedding gown and tuxedo as seen in the game, complete with – get this – the characters’ signature weapons. For the groom, why not be extra all the way and use the sword to cut the giant Final Fantasy-themed wedding cake? The wedding is, without a doubt, extravagant and OTT and will certainly leave non-fans confused and bemused at the same time.
In terms of decoration, the banquet hall will feature a white Chocobo welcoming the guests, while the tables are set with game-themed elements.
The wedding package also includes a course meal with similarly themed dishes. The dessert, for example, features the adorable Moogle made from macarons, plus a little chocolate cake with Chocobo on top.
This wedding plan will set you back ¥2.5 million (about USD22,800) for 70 guests. But here’s a compromise: you can also opt for just the wedding photography plan, which we think could be significantly cheaper, although the price for this has yet to be released. For the shoot, you’ll be dressed up like the video game characters and photographed in a setting reminiscent of Final Fantasy.
