If you’re planning to catch a movie soon, you’re in luck because you can save money on your next cinema outing with Japan’s community movie ticket campaign. This new discount deal is part of the national Event-wari programme, which offers event tickets at a lower price to encourage everyone to go out and support businesses.
Discounted tickets will be available at participating cinemas across Japan between December 2 and January 29 2023 for visits until Tuesday January 31 2023. Movie tickets for adults usually cost ¥1,900 per person, but through the new discount campaign you can enjoy the latest films for ¥1,200 per person (tickets for high school students and younger children will now be ¥800 instead of the usual ¥1,000).
The promotion is open to both residents of Japan and tourists from overseas. To qualify, you’ll need to be triple vaccinated and upload your Covid-19 vaccine certificate to a special website (accessible from December 2). Negative Covid-19 test results will not be accepted for this campaign.
After your vaccine certificate has been checked, you’ll receive a number and password as well as a QR code, which you will need to book your tickets online. Note that payments can only be made through credit cards.
