Forget those ubiquitous clear, plastic umbrellas you can find in any store across the country. 7-Eleven in Japan is about to release a small collection of stylish umbrellas featuring American artist Keith Haring’s iconic designs.
Keith Haring (1958-1990) is a household name celebrated for his colourful pop art and graffiti representing New York’s urban street culture that flourished in the 1980s. Now his works are exhibited worldwide at prominent art institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His creations have also transcended the borders of the art world into fashion.
These funky umbrellas come in three different patterns and will be available for purchase both in-store and online from Thursday October 29. Measuring at 65cm, the brollies are made from an eco-friendly vinyl that’s wind resistant and, of course, water repellent. They retail for ¥1,400 (tax included) each.
