Time Out says

A live performance by the Japanese taiko drumming troupe Drum Tao is one of those spectacles that are so extraordinary they deserve to be on everyone’s ‘things to see before you die’ bucket list. The group, which was first formed in Aichi prefecture in 1933, incorporates taiko drumming, koto (Japanese string instrument) playing, martial arts and physical theatre in their highly acclaimed performances, which have toured in over 500 cities and 26 countries across the world.

The show isn’t just an auditory one. With seamlessly synchronised movements, the drummers demonstrate an imponderable magnitude of upper body strength as they dance while beating the taiko drums for a rallying battle cry. You might not expect the concert to weigh up to seeing your favourite rock bands live, but within five minutes of the show, the energy will make you want to rise to your feet and fist pump in exuberance.

If you’re in Tokyo this autumn, don’t miss the opportunity to watch the ensemble perform at Lumine 0, where they’ll be putting on shows from September 23 through October 10. Show times vary depending on performance date. You can get your tickets here.
