Tickets for this two-day fest from the makers of Fuji Rock normally sell out in advance, and it's easy to see why: with just two stages, a laidback vibe and gorgeous views of Mt Fuji (when the weather plays nice, at least), it's one of the nicest music festivals around. Named after the verdant plateau on which it's held, Shizuoka's Asagiri Jam is as much about camping as it is music, with evening campfires and stalls selling locally produced goodies returning every year. This year's lineup is looking stronger than perhaps ever, with cross-genre rock icon Garland Jeffreys, tougher-than-steel guitar hero Wilko Johnson, Detroit titans Carl Craig and Theo Parrish and Scottish twee-pop champs Belle and Sebastian among the highlights. We're also excited to catch the likes of Ego-Wrappin', D.A.N. and former James Brown backup vocalist Martha High, who'll be appearing together with funk outfit Osaka Monaurail.
