This unique accommodation in the coastal town of Kamakura combines traditional Japanese culture with beach house vibes. Set inside a 90-year old Japanese building, each of the three guest rooms has a minimalist interior design, where you can experience the spirit of Zen. We recommend the Vague room, which boasts tatami flooring, traditional sliding lattice doors and a tokonoma alcove. It’s decorated with a surfboard featuring indigo-dyed cotton fabric from Tokushima prefecture. The walls are painted in a dark blue colour, resembling the nearby ocean. The room provides space for up to four people and you’ll sleep on a traditional futon (from ¥24,000/night).
The guesthouse also has a studio where you can join yoga lessons or a personal training session, and you’ll find a sauna on the rooftop (note that you’ll have to make a reservation in advance). At the on-site gallery space, you can admire local artworks and products that blend traditional techniques and Japanese beach culture. The best part is, you don’t have to be a hotel guest to join yoga lessons or visit the sauna and the art gallery.
