Opened in mid 2006 a stone’s throw from the British Embassy and Imperial Gardens, the Monterey is a stylish place with rooms tastefully decorated in what they describe as ‘Edo taste’. In practice, this means colourful rooms of pinks and yellows, with touches of classic Japanese design. This isn’t designer living to the degree offered at Claska, Grand Hyatt Tokyo or the Mandarin Oriental, but it’s a comfortable, peaceful option.
