Grab a car and head out over the weekend of June 13-14, as the parking lot of Aeon Mall Makuhari Shintoshin in Chiba prefecture turns into a free drive-in cinema.
Drive-in movie theatres are making a comeback around the world, so event organiser Kingbeat has decided to upgrade its usual outdoor cinema events by hosting movie nights with built-in social distancing – like a drive-in theatre.
‘Cinematheque – Drive-in Theater’ will screen the animated movie ‘Sing’ (2016) on June 13 and the musical drama ‘Burlesque’ (2010) on June 14. From the studio behind 'Minions', 'Sing' is a quirky animated musical featuring singing animals. 'Burlesque', on the other hand, boasts a star-studded lineup that include Christina Aguilera and Cher.
The venue opens at 5.30pm and screenings start at 7pm on both days.
Even though it’s a free event, you’ll have to reserve tickets, available until 7pm on June 8, via the electronic ticket service Peatix (Japanese only). If the number of reservations is greater than the number of available parking spaces, the organisers will turn the ticket system into a lottery.
Note these safety measures:
To ensure safety for all visitors, people with a fever of 37.5 degrees Celsius won’t be admitted. Organisers recommend wearing face masks, and keeping car windows open for air circulation. When outside your car, make sure to keep a safe distance of one-to-two metres from others.
