To celebrate the New Year, not just one but three different ballets will be staged in succession. Rather than the previous ballets, Les Sylphides is a non-narrative ballet, meaning it doesn’t focus on a specific plot; rather, it’s dance for dance’s sake. Petrouchka, on the other hand, is a narrative, burlesque ballet that follows three puppets and their inner lives: their feelings, their jealousies, their loves. The two ballets are interspersed with The Firebird, a new work choreographed by Megumi Nakamura, who is well-known in the Japanese contemporary dance community.
