If you ever feel overwhelmed by the choice of izakaya and pubs lined up along Kabukicho, head to Shinjuku Ale. It offers seven kinds of craft beer that’s freshly made at the building’s third-floor brewery. Go for a classic pilsner and IPA, a fruity mikan ale or a CBD infused beer to help you wind down after a long day. The casual standing bar on the first floor is open from 12noon (6pm on Monday), while the fancier counter bar on the second floor is only open during the evenings. The best part is Shinjuku Ale is open until 4am on most days, making it an ideal spot to visit when you’ve missed your last train.
There’s also a rooftop you can rent out for barbecues. The grill plans come with beer can chicken, meat, veggies, yakisoba and an all-you-can-drink deal for only ¥5,000 per person. That doesn’t include craft beer, but you can upgrade to an all-you-can-drink craft beer plan for an additional ¥1,500. If you want to splurge, you can also add seafood (¥7,000) or even black wagyu (¥10,000) to your barbecue. And if roast chicken is not your thing, you can opt for a hotpot made with dark pilsner, and filled with plenty of meat (¥5,000).
