Arakawa Amusement Park has been around for more than 100 years, offering mostly child-friendly attractions such as a merry-go-round, train and a water shooting ride. Even the roller coaster, known as ‘Japan’s slowest roller coaster’ with a top speed of 13.7km per hour, is suitable for younger children. The park recently reopened in 2022 after closing for renovations in 2017, with most rides revamped into bigger and better versions.
The park also has a zoo next door with ponies, sheep and goats. There’s even a section where you can view exotic animals such as owls, hawks, meerkats and capybaras. You can feed some animals in exchange for one ride ticket or ¥100.
While the Mogu Mogu House food court is spacious and makes a great place to rest in between activities, we recommend stopping at Cafe 193. It operates inside a stationary train that used to run on the Toden Arakawa line. You can get coffee, lemonade, housemade shiso juice, and if you’re looking for something more substantial, munch on the ring breads, disguised as train handles hanging off the ceiling.
