Held in conjunction with the international Tokyo Gendai art fair, this seasonal programme brings a diverse selection of artsy events and showcases to familiar Yokohama locations such as the City Hall atrium, Zou-no-hana Terrace, BankArt Station and the Yokohama Museum of Art. At City Hall, you’ll be able to take part in workshops as well as catch Insta-friendly artistic marvels including Motoka Watanabe’s bubbly balloon art and ambitious installations by the Taiki Kusakabe-led Ku Kan project, whose works have decorated many of Japan’s biggest music festivals.
Zou-no-hana Terrace will extend its opening hours from July 5 to 6 until 10pm. Additionally, artist Kazuma Horie, whose exhibition will be held during the period, will be in residence during these hours to meet and interact with visitors. On July 6, Zou-no-hana Terrace will also host Snack Zou-no-hana, and will feature a special menu as well as live DJ performances.
From July 5 to 7, the Yokohama Museum of Art is hosting a special exhibition featuring Japanese contemporary artist Yusuke Asai's new work, 'To the Forest of 8 Million'. Yokohama City commissioned Asai to create this piece, which was added to the Yokohama Museum of Art collection in 2023. The artwork was created with funds from a donation to the Yokohama City Cultural Fund as part of Yokohama Shinkin Bank’s 100th anniversary commemorative project. Asai’s work is made using mostly soil from the city of Yokohama which is used as a painting medium and represents the many interactions of people and places.
