Weronika Gęsicka’s work is characterised by warping images of vintage photographs that resemble staged stock images. By tampering the original photographs, Gęsicka creates new, often disturbing images that tell different stories from new perspectives. Her exhibition ‘What a Wonderful World’, curated by Marina Amada, features several works from her series ‘Traces’ which uses photos taken in the USA dating back to the 1950’s and 1960’s, challenging the truth of the images used as a medium for memory.
