It only takes one glance at the Edo-style poster of David Bowie to know that this isn’t your average Ukiyo-e exhibition. While Ukiyo-e is a centuries-old art form, the traditional woodblock prints were often used to depict the latest trends and evolving subcultures in Japan by artists like Hokusai.
In the spirit of embracing woodblock prints as a way of snapshotting the present age, this small but characterful display on the seventh floor of Shin Marunouchi Building is dedicated to contemporary pop culture. A total of 15 works will be exhibited, including pieces that feature the glam metal band Kiss.
