Held at the What Museum in the Warehouse Terrada complex, this exhibition features pieces from the personal collection of Tekero Obayashi (chairman of the Aichi Triennale 2022 organising committee).
Divided into three thematic sections (‘Tadao Ando Draws’, ‘Between the City and Me’ and ‘Self-History’), the works on display express the different stages of Ando’s venerable career as an artist and architect. The ‘Tadao Ando Draws’ collection will include a series of 15 two-dimensional works and early sketches by Ando, while ‘Between the City and Me’ comprises photographs of cityscapes taken by a variety of artists from different perspectives. Finally, the ‘Self-History’ section will boast a collection of 40 contemporary works that demonstrate the ever-changing nature of Obayashi’s collection.
Highlights include the 2-metre-tall 'Tadao Ando' sculpture by Xavier Veilhan, a 10-metre-long sketch created for Benesse Art Site Naoshima, and displays of incomplete projects such as the 'Nakanoshima Project I', courtesy of Osaka City Hall.
