Time Out says

Michihiro Shimabuku, who goes by Shimabuku, has travelled extensively around the world since the early 1990s in search of new modes of communication rooted in local lifestyles and culture. Working across genres including video, installation, sculpture, and performance, Shimabuku’s metaphorical and evocative approach abounding in poetic sentiment and humour, has earned him international acclaim.

Shimabuku has collaborated with such diverse sound-related practitioners as composers Nomura Makoto and Kosugi Takehisa, musicians Kassin, Moreno Veloso, Arto Lindsay and the Brazilian repentistas (minstrels). In the underground space of BankART Station, roughly ten works will be exhibited, including ‘Cuban Samba’, a Japan premiere.
