This museum has a collection of ancient Chinese bronze objects and other artworks collected by the Sumitomo Family. The museum first opened in Kyoto in 1960, and expanded to a second location in 2002 in Roppongi, on the site of the former Sumitomo family villa.
The building houses a total of 3,500 artefacts, including two designated national treasures, 13 important cultural properties and 60 art treasures. There’s a wide range of items on display such as Western and Japanese paintings, modern ceramics, tea utensils, stationery and even Noh masks and costumes.
