Noh musician Ryoko Aoki hosts a series of live concerts online with composers from around the globe during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. The first concert was held on May 30, featuring Federico Gardella from Milan in collaboration with Kazushi Saito – a flautist from the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra– and Aoki herself. The July 4 concert will feature France-based Japanese composer Noriko Baba who will be performing ‘Nopera Aoi Aoi’ which was inspired by a classic work of Japanese literature, The Tale of Genji. Ryoko Aoki will be wearing a costume by Yoshikazu Yamagata from Written Afterwards, and accompanied by Kazushi Saito and percussionist Asuka Hanataka. The third and final performance will be held on July 11 with Spanish cellist Aldo Mata, who will be performing Bruno Dozza’s ‘Euridice’.
The concerts are live-streamed on YouTube, so you can watch and listen from the comfort of your own home. You can also see past performances on the official YouTube channel or even make a donation to support Ryoko Aoiki.
