Housed in an all-white modernist building but specialising in traditional Japanese art – from calligraphy works and letters to paintings – Kashima has been making a name for itself with biannual art markets held every spring and autumn. However, it's well worth a visit even outside of these periods, especially if you're into typography and traditional lettering.
