New York-based artist Julia Chiang returns to Tokyo with another colourful solo exhibition at Nanzuka Underground. Chiang has showcased her works around the world at prominent venues including Colette in Paris and The Modern Institute in Glasgow. Her last exhibition in Tokyo took place in 2019 at Nanzuka’s former gallery before its relocation to Harajuku.
For ‘Remember That Time When What’, Chiang's latest works feature a myriad of different forms resembling droplets, pistils and cells that coexist elegantly among planes of colour. These artworks can be interpreted as patterns of living creatures as well as the flow of energy. The exhibition is a collection of 15 large and small-scale paintings as well as a selection of Chiang’s watercolour works.
