The University Art Museum of the Tokyo University of the Arts purchases a handful of works from the students of each department to support its next-generation artists and expand its ever-growing collection of work that demonstrates the influence of the university’s programmes.
For this exhibition, the museum has selected 100 works out of the 10,000 pieces it has purchased from students over time, featuring alumna from the Meiji era (1868-1912) to now. A wide range of mediums is highlighted, from Taikan Yokoyama's 1893 Nihonga painting 'Murado Kanen', to Kaori Iwase's thesis film 'A Grandma's Goldfish' (2011-2012).
