Dive into the history of Finnish design at this exhibition at Bunkamura in Shibuya. It starts out with scenic photos and posters of Finland in all four seasons, so you can see the natural beauty that inspired the country’s famously clean designs. You’ll see all kinds of household items, furniture, clothing and products that have shaped Finnish homes and lifestyles throughout the decades, created by over 50 artists.
The wide-ranging exhibition includes highlights such as ceramics by Kaj Franck, colourful textiles by Maija Isola (who worked with major fashion brand Marimekko), furniture by Alavar Aalto, and even illustrations of the world-famous Moomins by Tove Jansson. And if you feel inspired to beautify your home with some Finnish design touches, you can always swing by the gift shop to pick up tote bags, notebooks, postcards and other knick-knacks, all printed with colourful designs.
