This special exhibition at the Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum looks at the history of Tokyo. It’s a scaled-down version of Edo-Tokyo Museum’s permanent exhibition, which is currently closed for extensive renovation works until 2025.
The exhibition is divided into four sections, with exhibits and artefacts from the Palaeolithic era to the city’s economic growth in the 20th century. You’ll find unglazed terracotta figures from the Kofun period, ukiyo-e by Edo-era artist Utagawa Hiroshige, postcards from the early 20th century, and more.
The exhibition is ongoing until February 12 2023. It opens from 9.30am to 5.30pm (until 4.30pm from Oct 1), but closed on Mondays (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday) and from Dec 25 2022 to Jan 1 2023.
