There’s no better place than Tokyo to geek out over your favourite Pokémon – there are stores, cafés and even manhole covers dedicated to Pikachu and friends. Now, you can get your art fix while hunting down your favourite pocket monsters as American artist Daniel Arsham has teamed up with Nanzuka for a massive Pokémon exhibition.
The exhibition takes place over five different venues including three of Nanzuka's gallery spaces: Nanzuka Underground, Nanzuka 2G, and 3110NZ by LDH Kitchen. There’ll also be public art pieces at 66 Plaza at Roppongi Hills and Isamu Noguchi's indoor stone garden on the first floor of Sogetsu Plaza.
The exhibition features Pokémon characters in Arsham's signature fossilised, decaying style which he calls 'Fictional Archaeology'. Most notable are his sculptures made from materials such as pyrite, volcanic ash, crystal and bronze, as well as a special animation created in collaboration with Kunihiko Yuyama, the General Director of the Pokémon anime series.
