Contemporary art group L Pack. are hosting an exhibition at shibuya-san, the city’s newest tourist information centre inside Shibuya Fukuras, co-produced by yours truly, Time Out Tokyo. This exhibition is the group’s first installation in the ‘Artist Buyers’ series, which focuses on the two cities of Shibuya and Nagaoka. They’ve hand-picked a selection of local artists from each city who explore the topic of ‘tourism’ through their work.
What ties these two seemingly disparate locations together is that both Tokyo and Nagaoka are art centres. Shibuya-san in Tokyo is a place where tourism meets art while Nagaoka was the city where Japan’s first ever contemporary art museum was built, back in 1964.
So come explore the past, present and future of Shibuya through the eyes of various artists including Mitsuhiro Ikeda, Mizue Ogiso and Koji Fukunaga.
