Our guide to the Best Taprooms in Cape Town blew up earlier this year, so Cape Town obviously has a healthy thirst for craft beer.

And while it can be fun buzzing around the city to discover the different taprooms, this month Time Out Market Cape Town is making it easier than ever for you to tap into the city’s best brews, by bringing seven of the Cape’s best breweries together under one roof!

Say hello to the inaugural Time Out Market Cape Town Beer Project!

How it works is pretty simple. On Saturday, October 26, the Time Out Studio upstairs at the Time Out Market Cape Town transforms into Cape Town’s leading Beer and Food Extravaganza, bringing a little Oktoberfest-ivity to the city!

You’ll find six breweries and beer brands setting up shop, pouring tasters and pints from a series of craft taps. Tickets cost R250 per person (adults only, of course) and for that you’ll enjoy:

  • A beer glass (to take home!)
  • One complimentary taster of each beer from each producer
  • Four coupons, each redeemable for a draught of beer of your choice

If you’re still thirsty after those four free pours, additional coupons can be purchased at R300/6. And, of course, because the Market is about food as well as brews, you can enjoy tasters from Market chefs downstairs (or pop down to order a full portion).

Here’s the line-up of breweries that will be pouring on the day:

Bomb Squad
The passion project of World Cup-winning Springboks Steven Kitshoff and Malcolm Marx, Bomb Squad is a heavyweight brand that packs a punch with their crisp Pilsner and full-bodied Lager. Expect a scrum of thirsty punters on the day.

Cape Collective
A collection of Cape-inspired brews crafted in the Breede River Valley. Look out for the Cape Collective  Lager, a fresh and peachy Pale Ale and a tropical Session IPA.

Saggy Stone Brewing Co.
Established on a remote family farm in Robertson, where fresh spring water provides the magic ingredient, Saggy Stone blends tradition with innovation. Try their Rocky River Pale Ale, Desert Lager and easy-drinking California Steam.

Jack Black’s
Founded in 2007, Jack Black’s has also been a pioneer in Cape Town’s craft beer scene. Their Cape Pale Ale and Atlantic Weiss are staples of South African craft beer culture, known for their balance and drinkability. Round of applause for their Pint for a Purpose, supporting local charities.

Woodstock Brewery
Since 2014, Woodstock Brewery has been a fixture in Cape Town’s hoppy landscape, and has become famous for their unfiltered Happy Pills, hop-forward Californicator and richly-flavoured Mr Brownstone ale.

Devil’s Peak Beer Company
Devil’s Peak was a pioneer in the Cape Town craft scene and has become one of the largest players with a core range of classics complemented by seasonal special releases.  Don’t miss the iconic King’s Blockhouse IPA. As they say on the bottle: fortune favours bold.

Anker
When Denis Bouckaert, founder of Den Anker, opened the restaurant doors at the V&A Waterfront in 1996 he was producing Anker Bier in Belgium, shipping bottles to South Africa to enjoy with their signature pots of moules frites. After selling ‘enough beer to fill many swimming pools’ he brought the recipe to South Africa and is now brewing in Cape Town, bottling as Anker Brew.

Noon Gun

Brewed a stone’s throw from the surf break at Muizenberg, this up-and-coming craft brewery takes its name and inspiration from Cape Town’s historic Noon Day Gun. Look forward to the crisp Smooth Bore Lager and 18-Pounder Session IPA, which won gold at the 2019 European Beer Challenge (UK).

With summer finally showing its face in Cape Town, there’s never been a better time for a cold brew… and no better venue than the Time Out Market Cape Town Beer Project!

Tickets, at R250 per person, are available via Howler.
