January 29th marks the start of the Lunar New Year, and Texas is brimming with festivities to welcome the Year of the Snake. From spirited lion and dragon dances to cultural performances and market pop-ups featuring Asian-owned businesses, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Not sure where to start? We’ve rounded up the best events happening across the state to help you celebrate. 

Where to celebrate the lunar new year

Lunar New Year 2025 at Asia Society, Houston

Year of the Snake is all about wisdom, intuition and transformation, and Asia Society’s Lunar New Year Festival captures that spirit well. On February 1, enjoy energetic dance performances, unleash your creativity with hands-on arts and crafts, embark on a fun mission at the Space City: Art of the Age of Artemis exhibit or indulge in some Filipino soul food while sipping on matcha. The event is free, but registration is required. (Note: The Splendor of Huaxing Performance costs $12.)

2025 Lunar New Year Festival at the Chinese Community Center, Houston

Since 2003, this community celebration has been a Houston tradition. Highlights include cultural performances, arts and crafts like calligraphy and origami and a vendor showcase featuring the area’s best restaurants and food trucks.

Asian New Year Festival at Rolling Oaks Mall, San Antonio

Learn more about the cultures across the Asian diaspora through music, dance and food at this year’s Asian New Year Festival at Rolling Oaks Mall. Instead of the usual mall goers, martial arts performances, sumo wrestling and aromas of delicious Asian food will fill the space. 

When: February 1 and 2, 2025, from 12pm to 6pm

Lunar New Year Festival at The Paper + Craft Pantry, Austin

The Paper + Craft Lunar New Year Festival is your one-stop shop for entertainment, shopping and delicious bites. On February 2, watch costumed lion dancers strut their stuff or shop for food, books and other crafts from local Asian-owned businesses. The event is free and family-friendly, with plenty of activities for your little ones to enjoy.

Lunar New Year Events at Asia Times Square, Dallas

Dallas is putting out all the stops with Lunar New Year celebrations spanning three weekends. The first two weekends (Jan. 17-19) and (Jan. 24-26) feature a local market, a fashion show and performances by K-pop dance groups and martial artists. The grand finale on February 1-2 will culminate in a dazzling firecracker show and captivating lion and dragon dances.
