Amid inflation, rising costs and growing competition, small businesses have struggled to stay afloat. But independent coffee shops remain resilient, finding creative ways to deliver quality coffee and exceptional service to their customers. OnDeck analyzed TripAdvisor reviews to find the highest-rated coffee shops in the U.S.’s most populous cities, and two Texas spots made the top 10: Arlington-based Iris Bagel and Coffee House and Estate Coffee Company in San Antonio.
Iris Bagel and Coffee House, known for its fresh bagels, specialty lattes and classic coffee drinks, claimed the 3rd spot. Meanwhile, Estate Coffee Company, a small craft coffee roaster nestled in downtown San Antonio, landed the 9th spot.
It’s no surprise that these Texas spots earned top honors. Customers sang their praises for the quality of the food and affordable price points. One customer of Iris Bagel and Coffee House shared, “This is an amazing gem in my neighborhood. I have been coming to this shop for four years. Their bagels are what we crave when we have been away for a while… The coffee is cheaper and better than Starbucks. I know some Starbucks employees come here for their latte. (Shhhh).” They also noted the shop’s inviting atmosphere: “The owner knows many people by name, and he is interested in the lives of people who walk in.”
Estate Coffee Company earned similar praises for its thoughtful approach to coffee and customer service. One patron described it as a go-to spot, saying: “The baristas are always so kind and attentive. The lattes are also very consistently good! Every time I go, I leave happier.”
Texas is the only state to feature two cafes in the top 10, further cementing its reputation as a hub for quality coffee and welcoming hospitality. Whether you’re a local or passing through, these standout spots are worth a visit.
