From Michelin-starred eateries to hole-in-the-wall joints, Houston’s culinary scene is constantly expanding and pushing the boundaries. Case in point: Next month, the city will welcome Oru, a new Japanese concept focused on craft sushi, seasonal dishes and curated bites.
Brought to you by the founders of Comma Hospitality, Oru will feature a 24-seat hinoki counter, offering a front-row view of sushi preparations turned into performances. Expect Madai nigiri enriched in Arbequina olive oil and recado negro and fatty Chutoro adorned with Osetra caviar, as well as artful dishes like swordfish crudo and slow-cooked Alaskan black cod.
The same thoughtfulness will extend to the restaurant’s beverage program, which will showcase Japanese-inspired cocktails, crème de la crème sake and wines that pair harmoniously with every course. While you might be tempted to leave, a roasted banana ice cream adorned with Thai wild banana puree and caviar just might keep you a little while longer.
The space will feature plenty of natural light from expansive windows, with more interior details to come. The restaurant is expected to open in February 2025 on 746 W 24th St.
