It's a trek to get here – just 1,150 short kilometres west of Sydney! – but it sure does provide a sight when you do. Broken Hill is known for its rich mining tradition, indigenous culture and outback lifestyle. The surrounding landscape is dotted with sandstone sculptures that remain all but undisturbed. So prepare for eye-popping red desert sunrises and glorious sunsets that'll have you snapping away with your camera phone. Be sure to drop by the Palace Hotel, famous for its appearance in the 1994 Australian comedy classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
