Sydney’s most rebellious cabaret and variety show is back on the stage and serving up a new spin on all its old tricks. Accompanied by a live rock n’ roll band, Wanted and Wild is an adults-only show chock full of beautiful (and dangerous) burlesque, circus and aerial acts.
The love child of creators Diesel Darling (Miss Burlesque Sydney) and Porcelain Alice (Miss Burlesque NSW), this debaucherous one-and-a-half hour show is shacking up with Mary’s Underground for the first time in a match made in heaven (or the fires of hell?).
The Mary’s empire may have made its mark on the Sydney hospo scene serving up trashy-but-good American cheeseburgers in grungy settings scattered with dried roses and graffiti that hark back to the ultra ’80s aesthetic of The Lost Boys – but at Mary’s Underground the vibe is dressed up in a jazz bar style with tables luxuriating in their own bubbles of space. This makes it perfect for setting loose burlesque queens setting sparks alight while grinding on angle grinders as the band rocks out to covers of punked up jukebox hits – while also maintaining physical distancing (safety first!).
If you’re in need of a little old-world-esque escapism with a touch of rock n’ roll, you’ve found it. The next show is on Saturday, December 12, with two sittings at 6.30pm and 9.30pm. Tickets are $50.87. Grab yours here.
