It can be super tempting for kids to want to spend their entire school holidays (especially in the depths of winter) playing video games or watching TV. Thankfully, Sydney Olympic Park’s school holiday program is back with a fun line-up of sports and activities to prevent this from happening.

From July 2-17, three of Sydney Olympic Park’s major venues – the Quaycentre, Aquatic Centre and Archery Centre – will transform into active hubs where children of all ages can have a crack at sports like soccer, netball, archery and diving. They’ll learn new skills, sharpen their techniques and even train with professionals – many of the lessons are taken by elite coaches and athletes.

The Quaycentre is where much of the ball-related action will take place. Table tennis, basketball, soccer and netball are just some of the sports on offer, while kids can also give gymnastics a go as part of the multi-sports program.

In the pool at the Aquatic Centre, a team of qualified instructors will run diving and water polo workshops, as well as intensive swimming lessons. Not only will basic water safety procedures be covered off, but kids will also get to develop skills like moving the ball through the water or jumping from the three-metre platform (depending on the class they’re in).

The Aquatic Centre – including Splasher's Playground and the whirlpool – is also open for recreational swimming with the whole family.

For something completely different, the Archery Centre will hold sessions that go through the basics of archery, plus the correct handling of equipment and proper safety protocols. Or your kid may just want to play laser tag – the outdoor battlefield (complete with weapons, props and sound effects) is the ideal place to burn off some of that pent-up school holiday energy.
