This fern-strewn, neon-lit spot on Botany Road is nowhere near a beach and might not be your go-to summer festival destination, but the tenacious bunch at Redfern Surf Club are willing to give just about anything a go. On November 30, they’re hosting a groovy block party with DJs, food trucks and pop-up bars in their corner car park.
It’ll be an extension of their usual good-times party vibe, but with some fab specials and live sounds. Wayward Brewing Co will be setting up an outdoor bar slinging $5 tins of their raspberry Berliner weisse (a crisp, low-alcohol sour brew), and the Surf Club will bring their natty wine stores outside and pour minimal-intervention fizzies and fresh rosés for $10 a glass. There’ll also be some wild summery concoctions in the cocktail corner, with slushie-style beverages and beer floats.
To keep you steady, the PigOut food truck will dish up a funky fusion feast. Get serious with snacks like jalapeño mac’n'cheese spring rolls, taco dumplings with guac and sour cream, and a Tex-Mex beef burger smothered in cheese, red onion, tomato, corn chips, avocado and lime aioli.
There’ll also be beats pumping throughout the day from Sydney block party faves like Jack Shit and Bea Goode, with nighttime party starters Ariane, Purple Sneakers and Shantan Wantan Ichiban subbing in once the sun goes down. The 12-hour party will be a kind of endurance training to get you ready for summer music festival season, so get hydrated, practice your dance moves and forego your summer onesies for attire better suited to emergency wees.
