Time Out says

Jambo Sydney! Immerse yourself in the rhythms and flavours of Africa at the Motherland African Festival in Macquarie Mall from Friday 19 to Sunday May 21. Bring your dancing shoes because this festival will be full of energy, colour and culture.

Affectionately referred to as the motherland, Africa boasts a rich and vibrant history, and has exerted its influence across the world. Liverpool will shine a light on the more than 50 dynamic nations that make up the mother continent through a weekend-long program of dance, music, fashion and drumming performances. There are workshops for all ages including an aerobic Afro Steps workout by Yatimba, an African drumming and dance workshop with global performer Lucky Lartey; an art and painting class with young Ghanaian migrant Emmanuel Asante; and hair braiding by Sweetstylez.

Throughout the weekend, you can also browse African textiles at the artisan market, catch a runway show as part of the FOMA African Runway Showcase; engage in an inspiring conversation with Australia’s Local Hero 2021 Rosemary Kariuki; and listen to beats from Afro dance DJ Lady Chika, Sudan vocalist Yasmin Ibrahim Mohamed and the 8-piece African Vibes Band.

Come along to Liverpool for a weekend of music, food and entertainment and experience the best of Africa from May 19-21.
