One of Sydney's favourite gelaterias, Messina, is obsessed with wild innovation (as well as naming its creative flavour combos with whip-smart puns). On the cutting edge of its most experimental endeavours is Messina Eats, an ongoing series of collaborations that seek to blur the borders between the sweet and savoury.
To celebrate the Lunar New Year at the end of this month, Messina has partnered with Melbourne’s Wonderbao to create a clever fusion of traditional Chinese cuisine with a contemporary twist.
Alongside tried and true favourites, including classic pork buns and Wonderbao’s hugely popular pork belly and fried chicken stuffed gua bao, punters will also be able to sample a lobster bao-guette – a cross between a pillowy soft bao and a decadent lobster roll.
However, the star of this delicious show will undoubtedly be Messina’s mango pancakes, wrapped around a heart of mango sorbet and whipped cream.
You’ll be able to get your hands on this Chinese New Year feast at Messina’s Rosebery HQ from midday till late on January 31 and February 1. First-in-first-served rules apply, and there will be a limited supply of eats, so get in early to ensure you bag a bite.
