Roses are red, violets are blue and here’s something special you lovebirds can do. Rather than showering your significant other with a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates, consider giving your heart to a heart kid. This Valentine’s Day, HeartKids is inviting Aussies to make a long-lasting donation to support people impacted by congenital heart defect (CHD).

CHD is the number one cause of death in children under the age of one, and one baby is born with the condition in Australia every three hours. Sadly, there is no cure and four children die from CHD across the nation each week.

HeartKids is the only national not-for-profit organisation solely focused on supporting and advocating for all people impacted by childhood heart disease. This February 14 is Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day, or as HeartKids calls it, Sweetheart Day, where they hope to raise money to fund their life-changing services.

By donating, you’ll help HeartsKids provide families impacted by CHD with community services, education resources, financial support, hospital services, mental health programs, early childhood intervention and so much more. In 2023, HeartKids supported almost 1,500 families, helping to give those with congenital heart disease a fighting chance to live a long, healthy and fulfilling life.

So rather than giving your loved one a meaningless gift, donate to HeartKids on their behalf. You can make a one-off or monthly donation on the Sweetheart Day website here.
