Calling all aspiring actors and directors! If you’ve memorised entire monologues from your favourite film, had your Academy Award acceptance speech written since you were ten, and love nothing more than getting in front of (or behind) a camera, then Actors Centre Australia (ACA) wants you.

The renowned Leichhardt-based dramatic arts and acting school is currently taking applications for three of its highly sought-after courses: the Bachelor of Performing Arts (Stage and Screen), Foundation Program and the Craft of Directing Actors for Stage and Screen, a new online course.

The Bachelor of Performing Arts (Stage and Screen) is ACA’s flagship full-time course, and is accredited by Torrens University Australia. Over three years, students will embark on a practical acting syllabus that is designed for high achievers. The mission of the bachelor degree is to inspire, support and embolden all participants via sector-specific training, so that they can confidently enter the industry and make a professional impact both nationally and internationally.

For those who cannot commit to the bachelor degree (or have unsuccessfully auditioned at other drama institutes), the Foundation Program offers students the opportunity to accelerate their creative development, hone their skills and increase their chance of employment. With just 15 to 20 spots available in the 20-week intensive course, ACA is searching for those with a creative and inspiring voice, talent, aptitude, potential and promise.

Led by ACA founder Dean Carey, the new Craft of Directing Actors for Stage and Screen online course is aimed at working directors who want to better understand the actor’s process. Designed to provide the clarity and skills any good director needs to work in the film and theatre industries, the program also includes exercises and workshops where students will learn how to help connect actor to actor, actor to script and guide an actor to fully inhabit a character. Special guest teachers include Academy Award nominee Steve Hicks; Broadway, West End and Emmy Award-winning theatre director Gale Edwards; acclaimed voice teacher Jennifer West and head of acting at ACA, Adam Cook.

Prices vary for each course (fee help is available), and all three programs can be taught online until IRL classes recommence. Find out more and apply here.
