Time Out was wowed the first time we encountered poet and rapper Kate Tempest at Sydney Writers’ Festival four years ago. Now she’s back as an author of her debut novel The Bricks that Built the Houses, set in her hometown of South London. Her talents for spoken word won her the Ted Hughes Prize for poetry in 2013, and her debut solo album Everybody Down was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize the following year.
Kate Tempest is opening Sydney Writers' Festival on Tue May 17. She'll be talking about her novel at The Bricks that Built the Houses on Sat May 21, and she's one of the panel members for SWF Gala: The Book that Saved Me on Fri May 20.
