Think iso is hard? Try real, actual social isolation. There are currently 44,000 young people in Australia who don’t have a home or a place to sleep. Many of them victims of family violence, these are the young women and men who can so easily fall between the cracks, into addiction, exploitation, crime and jail.
This is where the charity Whitelion operates, helping keep young people housed, engaged with society, out of trouble, and into jobs. With $2,500, Whitelion can enable a young person to access a youth worker for six months, giving them stability that many may never have experienced before. In this way Whitelion is able to increase the likelihood that at-risk young people can get into safe housing, make meaningful connections with the community and find the opportunities to reach their potential in life.
For World Homeless Day 2020, Whitelion has a fundraising goal of $500,000. This ambitious target will be helped along by corporate partners called Whitelion Matchers, who have pledged to match dollar for dollar the donations received from members of the public. Any donation you make will be doubled in impact.
The #NoHomeAddress campaign also involves well-known brands (such as Time Out) giving space on their website homepages to the campaign to increase awareness of homelessness. Times are tough for everyone right now but they are especially grim for homeless youth. Donate now and you can make your gift go twice as far, making all the difference for young people on the street.
