Time Out says

When it comes to sex and consent, Australia has a long way to go. You’re invited to join powerful conversations about how to expose and end rape culture across the country at the launch of Chanel Contos’ groundbreaking new book, Consent Laid Bare on September 13. The author, advocate and founder of the Teach Us Consent movement unites with Cheek Media Co. founder Hannah Ferguson for these critical discussions about how and why it’s still happening in an era of growing equality.

In 2021, Contos posted on Instagram asking if anyone had been sexually assaulted while at school. She received an outpouring of responses and was alarmed to discover that few instances had ever been reported and almost all were by people the victim knew. This spurred her to launch a nationwide movement lobbying for sexual consent education to be made mandatory in Australian schools.

Consent Laid Bare continues these crucial discussions and challenges the persistent inequalities that reinforce nonconsensual behaviours. At the live book launch, Contos and Ferguson will explore intricate consent dynamics in the Entitlement Era and challenge every woman and man to join the conversation, to keep the momentum for positive change.

Bring your mum, your brother, your aunt and your colleagues to the launch of Consent Laid Bare at the UNSW Roundhouse on September 13 from 7-9pm. Tickets start at $39 with 100 per cent of profits supporting Teach Us Consent’s invaluable work advocating for comprehensive sexual education. You can also purchase signed books on the night and have a photo opportunity with Contos.
