Time Out says

Not many people know that any leftover chemicals you have at home – from paints to solvents, pesticides and cleaning products – can’t be put in household bins. Instead, these hazardous chemicals should be disposed of safely, and the City of Sydney will help you do so.

The City of Sydney and the NSW Environment Protection Authority are running chemical drop-off days to help you dispose of your chemicals responsibly. Only household quantities (not commercial quantities) are accepted and the maximum container size is 20kg or 20L.

Accepted at the clean out will be solvents and household cleaners, paints and thinners, pesticides and herbicides, poisons, aerosols, pool chemicals, motor oils, fuels and fluids, acids and alkalis, car batteries, household batteries, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, fluorescent lamps, light globes, smoke alarms as well as cosmetics and skincare. Simply transport your items to the dedicated drop-off site and give yourself a pat on the back for doing the right thing.

Check out the Dates and Times tab for more information.

NB: Computers, mobile phones, cameras and other electronic goods are not accepted at this clean out day – keep them until the next e-waste drop off day.
