Probably one of the best beaches the North Shore has to offer, Balmoral Beach has it all - rock pools, a boardwalk, netted swimming baths, a playground, picnic tables, restaurants, the best hot chips you've ever eaten, a rotunda (more often than not hosting a beachside wedding ceremony) and even an adjacent skate park.
As long as you're not seeking swells, Balmoral caters to all leisure seekers. The northern end of the beach boasts a great natural shallow splash pool that's perfect for toddlers, while jumping off the boardwalk into the netted swimming area is great fun (and, let's face it, we could all use the exercise). Investigating the rocky landscape at either end of the beach is always an adventure.
Also, there seems to be an understanding amongst beachgoers as to which areas of the beach generally remain kid-free, something you'll be able to identify by the increased numbers of topless sunbakers.
