As Australia’s biggest contemporary art event Biennale of Sydney takes over the city from March to June, Edge Inner West 2024 is bringing its own spin on the famed festival to the Inner West suburbs with a program of performances, interactives and talks across three weekends.

Spanning two well-known inner city spots, you can watch in awe as creatives experiment with art and performance as award-winning composers, theatre companies, dance artists and more come together.

Find the itinerary below and prepare to block out your weekends.

Edge Inner West program

White Bay

The festival kicks off with Edge White Bay on April 6-7 where you can catch a series of performances at the industrial site White Bay Power Station. Opening its doors for the first time in more than 100 years to the public, the now empty space is being decked out with live music from award-winning composers Elizabeth Jigalin and Oliver John Cameron and theatre performances from Legs On The Wall and Force Majeure. Expect masterful storytelling on contemporary issues through movement, dance and playful compositions. Dance artist Ryuichi Fujimura and Suara Dance will be providing engaging performances, as well as Wiradjuri and Dunghutti artist Samantha Snedden, who will be offering workshops alongside her woven creations.

Town Hall Takeover

The heritage-listed Petersham Town Hall has long been a space of political use but for one weekend in April it will be transformed when artists take over the hallowed halls. Audiences will be challenged to rethink the future ahead through a range of audio visual, theatre and experimental art performances.

Head down on April 13-14 to catch the long list of local artists participating, which includes: Deborah Kelly, Lex Lindsay, Kit Spencer, and Saria Green of Creation; collaborators Alon Ilsar, Diane Busuttil and Matthew Hughestheatre makers Emma Kew and Cheryn Frost; plus multi-talented Shamgods and installation performance artist Kenneth Craig Lambert.

Talks

Return to the revitalised White Bay Power Station for the final weekend of Edge and listen in on a series of captivating talks. Presented as a love letter to the Inner West with a motley and eccentric guest list curated by Aussie writers and broadcasters Benjamin Law and Yumi Stynes, topics will cover everything from good food to sustainable fashion.
