Time Out says

AbSec, the peak organisation for Aboriginal children and families in NSW, is hosting a major (and free) NAIDOC Family Fun Day on Tuesday, July 4 and everyone is invited. Bring your friends and family to PCYC Marrickville from 10am-2pm for this celebration of Aboriginal culture with singing and dance performances, face painting, basket weaving, a free sausage sizzle and more.

This annual community event is in honour of NAIDOC Week, which celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It’s a chance for Australians from all walks of life to come together, connect and learn about Aboriginal history and culture.

This year’s NAIDOC Family Fun Day centres around the 2023 theme: ‘For Our Elders’ and is an opportunity to honour the important role they play in our communities and families.

Come along to celebrate Aboriginal culture across generations with traditional performances, a Smoking Ceremony, a Welcome to Country and an Elders tent. You’ll want to bring the kids along for some free school holiday fun with face painting, a jumping castle, a climbing wall, rides, a petting zoo and animal demonstrations. All ages can also get hands-on with art and craft workshops including basket weaving, jewellery-making stalls, and boomerang and clap stick painting. Plus, what better way to finish the day than with a free sausage sizzle?

AbSec’s NAIDOC Family Fun Day is free to attend but you must register online. Start counting down the days and register here.
