Before Mean Girls and Clueless there was Heathers – the 1988 cult film about a gang of teen bitches who rule highschool with an iron croquet mallet, and the two misfits who plan to end their reign.
This musical adaptation, co-written by Laurence O'Keefe (Legally Blonde) and Kevin Murphy (Reefer Madness), premiered off-Broadway in 2014.
This fabulous Sydney debut production, directed by Trevor Ashley, opened in July 2015 at the Hayes Theatre, starring Lucy Maunder as Heather Number One, Libby Asciak as her deputy Heather Duke, and Sydney Theatre Award-winner Lauren McKenna as Martha.
This return season, which is transferring to Sydney Opera House's Playhouse stage, will star Maunder, Asciak, McKenna and some of the original cast. Hilary Cole (Dogfight) will play Veronica Sawyer (i.e. Winona's role), and Rebecca Hetherington graduates to the role of Heather Mac.
