Theatres might have fallen silent for the mo, but that isn’t stopping our ever-resourceful performers from putting on a show.
When playwright, director and all-round hero Declan Greene took on the artistic director gig at Darlinghurst stalwart the Griffin Theatre Company, he could never have predicted what was just around the corner. But instead of lying around despairing (well, he prob did that for a bit too) he sprang into action, securing the support of Google’s Creative Lab and rounding up five of the freshest acts around.
Griffin Lock-In was the result, with ace shows by comedian and rock star Jordan Raskopolous, and fiercely funny stuff from the beautiful Black Birds babes already out there. But if you blinked, you missed them. Some 24-hours after each gig was done, they were wiped off the stage as if felled by a territorial drama queen.
But have no fear, you have one shot at redemption. Melbourne filmmaker, performer, stand-up comedian and slam poetry star Roshelle Fong will re-live the highs and filthy lows of Thirsty!, a witty, contemporary internet-noir performance piece for the quarantine era, on Thursday, May 21 at 7pm on Griffin’s YouTube Channel. Then it will be live for a few weeks, so no excuses.
