There’s loads to do in South Head, which boasts various lookout points, Camp Cove, Lady Lay Beach, Hornby Lighthouse and the Dunbar shipwreck and memorial site all located within.
South Head’s lookouts near Watson’s Bay are a great position if you're one of the many who does an annual whale-watching excursion during Sydney's winter. You can spot humpbacks and right whales during their migrations, as well as species like dolphins and killer whales – which rarely come close to our shores. Climb up to the top of the Gap for expansive views out across the ocean. If you’re not much of a climber or are afraid of heights, walk the South Head Heritage Trail for panoramic ocean views instead.
