Jess Polaschek first set up the Tribe as an online store to collate and sell items she loved from local makers, such as Mulga and Georgia Perry, as well as gifts she sourced from trips overseas. You may have come across her South American-inspired stalls at markets like Finders Keepers in the past, but now you can find her permanent space on Foley Street, alongside local makers’ stores Bermuda Black and Studio Enti. The shop works as a platform for local designers’ works, such as Jeff McCann’s hand painted cardboard jewellery or Eggpicnic’s childlike galah prints and gift cards, but Polaschek is also an advocate for after-hours events so the space hosts workshops, talks and exhibitions to encourage shoppers to the laneway.
