Husband-and-wife team Nicola and Orlando Reindorf first set up shop on Crown Street in 2011, where they continue to own a boutique of luxury men’s and women’s clothing sourced from all over the globe. They’ve since opened a store in Barangaroo selling sequined and star-patterned frocks from Danish designer Stine Goya, floaty, feminine shirts from French label Sessùn and show-stopping tasselled pencil skirts from Rachel Comey.
The Reindorfs travel to Europe several times a year to create a tight collection of items from fashion brands such as Commune de Paris, Henrik Vibskov and Maison Kitsuné. But they also champion local dressmakers such as Melbourne’s ethically minded Dress Up and Sydney-based jewellery designer Lucy Folk.
The fact that you can’t find many of these brands outside of their two Sydney boutiques is what fuels the Reindorfs to bring their favourite items together in one space. It gives them the edge if you’re on the hunt for a distinguished umbrella by UK label London Undercover, for example, or a vegan-friendly scent from Melbourne-based perfumery Kleins. But they’re not stockpiling fancy European fabrics for the sake of exclusivity; their ethos is to offer luxury clothing and gifts that help you stand out from the crowd.
They’re big on ethical brands, too, such as a pair of Veja sneakers crafted from raw materials sourced from organic farms that don’t use chemicals or polluting processes. And you won’t find a polyester pullover here – it’s Merino wool or nothing.
So it’s no surprise to hear their customers at the Barangaroo store are largely women who mean business. The store is wall-to-wall fun and flattering polka-dot dresses and Breton-striped cotton, taking you from killer client presentation to drinks at Smoke around the corner. And who can blame you? We’d be here every lunchtime to blow the next pay packet on a stylish pair of Carla Colour sunnies or a metallic Bellerose belt just to see us through the week. Thank you, Reindorfs, for bringing a slice of Surry Hills flair to the city.
