If you stepped out of the Parramatta Station and your heart sank at the construction site where the Tatra Polish deli used to be, we feel you. But it turns out that all the Eastern European meats and preserves are still on hand, just a little further up in the new location on Victoria Road. This is where you can load up your fridge with garlic sausages, smoked speck, hams, small goods, Polish cottage cheese, baked cheese cake and cured fish. Packed onto the shelves are jams, pickles, relishes and capsicum pastes in a thousand colours of fiery orange and red. Take home a litre of sour cherry syrup, a box of European bouillon cubes, soups and goulash bases. And don’t forget to look in the freezers. That’s where you’ll find big packets of pierogi that you can take home and store in the freezer for a quick supper. Fry up some bacon and onions, slap some sour cream on top and you’ll have no regrets about a dumpling dinner.
